Gave up and switched to the standard squaring-the-circle granny pattern for this project. I should've known better than to try something tricky for a project that's meant to sit in my lap while I multitask. I guess there's a lesson to be learned in every project!
I've been thinking about that, why I'm happier to screw up and revise on the fly when I crochet than when I write. I love to fiddle around, prototype things, start projects but not finish, try something just for proof of concept… but I feel so much pressure to write well that I can't get back to that feeling of "just because." It's nice to have something to go back to that no one expects me to be good at.
