Bobbin lace itself is so easy, just twist and cross, but the setup - pricking the pattern, winding the bobbins - is what takes forever, so I can understand why it didn't really get off the ground.
If you ever want to try tatting, I could probably teach you. Needle tatting is faster and easier, but the downside is the work is looser, and you can only work with one color at a time. Shuttle tatting is a bit slower till you get really good at it (compared to needle tatting I'm still slower at it) but you can work with multiple colors at once (this does require using multiple shuttles) but your work is a lot tighter. On the other hand, knowing how to needle tat made understanding shuttle tatting so much easier.
I may definitely hit you up for some knitting advice. I am generally in the market for a quick and easy knitted afghan pattern, one that's fast and doesn't require a lot of brainpower, because I'd like to get into knitting again, but be able to set the work aside again in event of, say, my toddler face-planting and needing an immediate cuddle. A friend of mine wants to start up a drive to make and donate afghans to a women's shelter, and I'd like to contribute.
