Mum sadly wanted to try a lot of things but seldom got started on any of them. We ended up giving away the kit.

I might take you up on that if I ever find my shuttle again. I know I've still got it, but I have so much craft stuff and it's not exactly organised *grins*

I've never done a knitted afghan although I know there are some lovely patterns out there. I had a quick look. A lot of them are very fancy though, and they're big projects. Making them for a women's shelter is a wonderful idea. I'm sure whatever you make will be greatly appreciated.

I mostly knit sweaters and I used to do a lot of baby clothes. I started knitting when my sister was expecting my nephew. He turns 40 next month o_O I'd never knitted much of anything before then, certainly never finished anything, but I picked out a pattern, got the yarn and needles, came home, and started trying to figure out all the fancy stitches. I couldn't have chosen a harder pattern, it took multiple attempts to figure it out, but it's meant that complicated patterns don't bother me, I know I can handle pretty much anything even if I've never come across the stitches before.
